Throne for Agayu

Throne for Agayu

Throne for Agayu, Ocha house of Alfredo Calvo, Matanzas, Cuba, August 2003. This throne for the Agayu of Alfredo Calvo was made by decorating his entire Ocha room. His Agayu is located to the right of the cabinet, his Chango is to the left. Alfredo was crowned directly with Agayu over 50 years ago by Ferminita Gomez herself (Ocha Bi, ibae). At the time she told him that the Orisha would either save him or kill him. While there is much controversy in the United States as to whether Agayu can or should be crowned directly, in Matanzas Alfredo has been crowning Agayus directly for more than forty years.
