During a tambor, the young singers and drummers will stick close to the drums and the akpon (Alberto Calvo), trying to learn everything they can by watching and listening. Although several seated here have their hands washed to play Aña, they still don’t have enough experience to play a tambor. But they can and do sing the lead on occasion. The adults at the tambor are supportive, and sing the chorus just as strongly when a child is singing lead as they do when an elder is singing.
